inspiration is for amateurs.

creation, expression, communication, the basis for my work, are not exclusively determined by outside forces. reliance on nature, music, etc. cannot form an exclusive basis for my work. it is true that everything that exists around me exerts its influences and shapes me; it does have an impact on what i do, but it cannot be the sole accelerant for the direction of my work. i cannot search for elements that might further my work. things normally considered as elements of inspiration are in fact pieces that i must use to build a new image. naturally these pieces must fit with who i am. in fact i must look within myself. being in touch with myself, then adding these building blocks produces my work.
technique

technique finishes my work. it is used at the end, as an application. it can only come at the end; use technique at the beginning and the work would fall in on itself. it would not be a work of art. it would not communicate anything. it helps produce a final image that has some element of refinement. for good or bad, technique helps people recognize it as art. the soul of my work is communication. does technique add to that communication? what can i say about raw, unrefined expression? fluid lines, rough shapes and forms, the essence of the image. energy, seen. passion, felt. memory, remembered.
